Israel marks one month since Hamas massacre with vigils, memorials and protests

A month after the deadliest attack in the history of the Jewish state, Israelis across the country took part in vigils, mourning, prayers and protests as the country continues to grapple with the devastating massacre. Around 1,400 people were killed in southern Israel after Hamas terrorists crossed the border in the early hours of October 7 and rampaged through communities on the outskirts of Gaza, mowing down partygoers at a music festival and capturing at least 245 people. As the country mourns its loss, closure remains impossible for many families. On Monday, only the bodies of 736 civilians and 348 security forces were released for burial.Officials say 100 more bodies have been identified and more are currently being identified, but dozens of Israelis remain "missing" with no captures confirmed by the IDF. Mourners gathered from Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and across the country to mark this solemn anniversary. Massive memorial services were held in Eilat and the Dead Sea, where many of the hardest-hit towns and kibbutz survivors have lived since their rescue.
